Boston’s First Gourmet Cupcake Shop to Open Second Location

Authentic Home-Baked Cupcakes Will Now Satisfy Financial District

BOSTON, MA, August 9, 2012 – Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe, Boston’s first gourmet cupcake shop, announced today it will open its second location in Boston’s bustling financial district on August 9th at 12:00 pm in order to closely cater to corporate clients.  The shop will be located at 85-93 Franklin Street.  Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe’s flagship location in Boston’s historic North End, has been celebrated by cupcake fans for their home baked, retro-cupcakes. Founder and owner, Sandy Russo, perfected her recipes after years of baking small batches the old-fashioned way – from scratch – and will now offer a convenient location downtown for downtown corporate and event catering.

“I’ve spent years measuring and mixing, frosting and baking and recreating childhood memories of baking with my mother, Rose, and perfecting my technique. I’m thrilled and proud to expand my dream of owning a bake shop, where everything is baked fresh daily for Bostonians,” says Russo.

For the morning breakfast rush, Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe will debut a Breakfast Cupcake. The Breakfast Cupcake is a savory bread pudding cupcake made with brioche and french bread that can be personalized to include sausage, bacon or vegetables and eggs. Just like with sweet, The Breakfast Cupcake will include gourmet ingredients such as sautéed leeks, wild mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and a selection of cheeses.

The “Lulu Cupcake,” Russo’s signature cupcake, redefines the iconic hostess cupcake using farm fresh eggs and butter, a Madagascar vanilla cream filling and a rich, dark chocolate cake. Lulu’s also offers a variety of indulgent flavors for every palate ranging from delicious chocolate flavors like Chocolate Turtle, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Chocolate Cherry Bomb, to fruity options, like Banana and Caramel, Blueberry Cheesecake and Strawberries and Cream, as well as twists on classic flavors, such as Chocolate Salted Caramel Smore, Pistachio with Port Wine and Lemon Curd. Lulu’s does not use any preservatives or additives and for those who cannot indulge in gluten, Russo also offers wheat-free cupcakes and cookies.

Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe cupcakes are sold $2.75 for a single treat, $16.00 for six and $29.50 for a dozen cupcakes. If you need a quick cupcake fix, Lulu’s also sells mini-cupcakes for $1.50 each or $16.50 for a dozen. All cupcakes can also be baked as 6 inch, 10 inch or half sheet cakes for any occasion. The financial district location will also feature a rotating cupcake of the week. Russo credits her initial success and expansion from her involvement with the Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream® Program. To help make her retro-cupcakes and other delicious baked goods, Russo received a small business loan from Brewing the American Dream to put towards a chocolate tempering machine, to speed up her cake production. Samuel Adams and its loan partner, Accion, also provide mentoring and coaching for Russo while her business continues to grow. In addition to funding, Brewing the American Dream also provides the essential ingredients for small business owners to become financially independent through speed coaching and mentoring.
